Best Places to Travel in November

November is the month most people skip. Summer crowds have gone home, the Christmas rush hasn’t started, and in a surprising number of places the weather is at its best all year.
Flights tend to cooperate too. Expedia’s 2026 Air Hacks report, based on US bookings, puts November among the three months with the most flight deals. Just stay clear of Thanksgiving week if you’re flying from the States.
So where should you actually go? This guide covers the best places to travel in November: 15 destinations for warm beaches, desert trips, history-heavy city breaks, cheap escapes and big hikes in the southern hemisphere’s spring. For each one you get the typical November weather in °C and °F, a rough daily budget, what’s worth doing that month, the best time of year to visit, and the one thing to watch out for.
A note on the numbers: temperatures are long-term averages, not forecasts. Budgets are BudgetYourTrip’s per-person daily estimates in US dollars, and the data year varies by destination, so treat them as a starting point rather than a quote.

Best Places to Travel in November for Warm Weather
In November, warmth hides in two places: the tropics north of the equator, where the rainy season is ending, and the desert belt across North Africa and the Middle East, where the summer furnace has finally cooled off. Here’s where to find it.
Best Places to Travel in November for Beaches and Sunshine
1. Canary Islands, Spain

If you live in Europe, this is the easiest warm escape of the month. The islands sit off the coast of Africa and stay far warmer than mainland Spain while everyone back home digs out their coats.
- November weather: highs of 21–24°C (70–75°F), lows of 15–17°C (59–63°F), sea around 21–22°C (70–72°F). The south of Gran Canaria and Lanzarote see only about three rainy days; the north of Tenerife gets more.
- Daily budget: about $158 (€145) per person.
- Worth doing: beach days in Maspalomas, the start of whale-watching season, and the send-off of the ARC transatlantic sailing rally from Las Palmas on 22 November 2026.
- Best time of year to visit: September and October, though November brings low-season deals.
- Watch out for: calima, the Saharan dust haze. Researchers publishing in Nature found it now reaches the islands on roughly 40% of days. The sea is also refreshing rather than tropical.

2. Phuket and Krabi, Thailand

November is the hinge month on Thailand’s Andaman coast. The southwest monsoon usually runs from May to October, so you’re arriving as it packs up. The second half of the month is normally drier than the first, and Phuket’s west-coast beaches (Patong, Kata, Karon) are usually swimmable by mid-November.
- November weather: about 31°C by day and 25°C at night (88°F / 76°F), sea around 29°C (84°F). It’s still showery: Phuket averages 177–216 mm of rain and around 16 rainy days.
- Daily budget: about $105 per person in Phuket (2023 data). Hotel prices start climbing toward the end of the month.
- Worth doing: Loy Krathong, expected around 24–25 November 2026, when people float small decorated baskets on water. Patong Beach is the busiest spot; Sapan Hin in Phuket Town draws the biggest local crowd.
- Best time of year to visit: November to April, Phuket’s high season.
- Watch out for: the Gulf islands. Koh Samui averages about 490 mm of rain in November, more than double Phuket. On the Andaman side, respect the red flags, because rip currents are still common.

3. Oman

Want real heat and almost no chance of rain? Oman is your pick. The brutal summer is over, and Muscat’s beaches are back in business.
- November weather: Muscat averages 30°C highs and 20°C lows (86°F / 68°F), sea around 28°C (82°F), and essentially zero rainy days.
- Daily budget: about $302 per person (updated August 2026). Hotels average $90 a night in low season and $168 in peak season.
- Worth doing: a night camping in the Wahiba (Sharqiya) Sands, plus National Day on 20 November, when flags and lights go up across the country.
- Best time of year to visit: October to March.
- Watch out for: the sun. UV levels are high, so plan beach time for mornings and late afternoons.
4. Aruba
Nervous about hurricane season? Aruba is the Caribbean island to look at. Its tourism board says it lies well outside the hurricane belt, and the Dutch weather service KNMI counted only about ten tropical storms or hurricanes near Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao since 1851, with just one passing directly over them (in 1996).
- November weather: highs of 32°C (90°F), lows of 23°C (73°F), sea around 28°C (82°F). October to January is Aruba’s wettest stretch, with about 111 mm of rain and 10 days with some rain in November, usually as short showers.
- Daily budget: about $325 per person (2023 data), the priciest pick on this list. The tourism board suggests booking before mid-November for lower rates.
- Worth doing: Arikok National Park and the Natural Pool, early snorkeling with sea turtles at Malmok, and the ITF beach tennis event at Bushiri Beach on 12–15 November 2026.
- Best time of year to visit: the tourism board says there’s no bad time; high season runs mid-December to mid-April.
- Watch out for: the tail end of the season. A storm passing nearby can still bring heavy rain, so buy travel insurance.

5. Morocco (Marrakech, the Sahara and Agadir)

tipsread is run from Tangier, so take this as local advice: November is a lovely time to see Morocco. Marrakech is warm enough for rooftop lunches, and the Sahara is pleasant by day instead of punishing.
- November weather: Marrakech averages 23°C highs and 9°C lows (73°F / 48°F) with about six rainy days. Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes, sees 24°C by day and 11°C at night (75°F / 52°F) and almost no rain. Agadir runs 24°C / 15°C with a 19°C (66°F) sea.
- Daily budget: about $88 mid-range, or $34 if you travel on a tight budget (updated August 2026).
- Worth doing: a night in a desert camp at Erg Chebbi, the Marrakech souks, day walks in the lower Atlas valleys, and Agadir if you want a mild coastal finish.
- Best time of year to visit: March to May and September to October, with November still a good month for the Sahara and the imperial cities.
- Watch out for: cold desert nights, so pack a warm layer. November is also one of Morocco’s wetter months, mostly on the Atlantic coast. Two public holidays fall this month: the Green March anniversary (6 November) and Independence Day (18 November), when banks and offices close.

6. Jordan (Petra and Wadi Rum)
Petra involves a lot of walking with very little shade. In summer that’s tough. In November, it’s a pleasure.
- November weather: Petra averages 22°C by day and 11°C at night (72°F / 52°F). Wadi Rum is similar at 23°C / 10°C. Down in Aqaba it’s 26°C with a 24°C (75°F) sea.
- Daily budget: about $176 mid-range (updated August 2026).
- Worth doing: the climb to Petra’s Monastery, Petra by Night (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday), a night in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum, and snorkeling in Aqaba.
- Tickets: a one-day Petra ticket costs JD 50 if you’re staying overnight in Jordan. The Jordan Pass (JD 70–80) includes Petra and waives the tourist visa fee if you buy it before arrival and stay at least two nights.
- Best time of year to visit: March to May and September to November.
- Watch out for: short days. The Petra ticket office closes around 4pm in winter, so start early.
7. Egypt (Luxor, Aswan and the Red Sea)
Ancient temples in 30°C sunshine with no rain at all? That’s Egypt in November, and it’s why the busy season starts this month.
- November weather: Luxor averages 29°C / 15°C (84°F / 59°F), Aswan 30°C / 17°C (86°F / 63°F) and Cairo 27°C / 15°C (81°F / 59°F). The Red Sea is 25–26°C (77–79°F). Rain is close to zero everywhere.
- Daily budget: about $64 mid-range or $24 on a tight budget (updated October 2026).
- Worth doing: a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, the Grand Egyptian Museum near Giza (open to the public since 4 November 2025), and snorkeling at Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh.
- Best time of year to visit: October to April.
- Watch out for: crowds building through the month. Book Nile cruises early and visit big sites at opening time.
Best Cultural Destinations to Visit in November
Cooler weather makes November ideal for the kind of trip where you walk all day: temples, old towns, markets. These four are among the best places to travel in November if history and food come first.
Best Cities for History, Food, and Local Experiences
8. Kyoto and Central Japan
November is maple season. The Japan Meteorological Corporation’s 2026 forecast puts Kyoto’s yellow leaves at their peak around 27 November and the red maples around 11 December, a few days later than usual because of a hot year. Tokyo’s reds are forecast to peak around 29 November.
- November weather: highs drop from about 19°C to 13°C (66°F to 56°F) across the month, and lows from 11°C to 5°C (51°F to 41°F). Expect roughly eight or nine wet days.
- Daily budget: about $110 mid-range in Kyoto (updated August 2026).
- Worth doing: temple gardens in autumn colour, a Tokyo-to-Kyoto rail trip timed for the last week of November, and early-morning visits before the tour groups.
- Best time of year to visit: late November to early December for autumn leaves, or spring for cherry blossoms.
- Watch out for: new costs. Japan’s departure tax rose to ¥3,000 on 1 July 2026, and Kyoto’s lodging tax now runs from ¥200 to ¥10,000 per person per night depending on the room rate.
9. Rajasthan, India
The monsoon is long over, the days are dry and sunny, and two big festivals land in the same month this year.
- November weather: Jaipur averages 29°C by day and 13°C at night (84°F / 55°F) with very little rain.
- Daily budget: about $40 mid-range for India (updated July 2026).
- Worth doing: Diwali on Sunday 8 November 2026, and the Pushkar Camel Fair, which centres on Kartik Purnima on 24 November 2026. Rajasthan Tourism announces the official fair dates, so check before booking. The forts and palaces of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur round out the trip.
- Best time of year to visit: October to March.
- Watch out for: Delhi’s air. In November 2025, the city’s average PM2.5 pollution reached 215 µg/m³, about 14 times the WHO’s 24-hour guideline. Keep your Delhi days short and head into Rajasthan.
10. Sicily, Italy

The beach crowds have gone, but the sea is still warm enough for a brave swim, and the island’s archaeological sites are easier to enjoy at 20°C than at 35°C.
- November weather: in Palermo, highs slide from 22°C to 17°C (71°F to 63°F) and lows from 16°C to 12°C. The sea cools from about 21°C to 18°C, and the chance of a wet day rises from about 27% to 35%.
- Daily budget: about $130 (€114) mid-range in Palermo (updated August 2026).
- Worth doing: tasting this year’s new olive oil (olio novello), which goes on sale in November; the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento; Syracuse; and Taormina, where many hotels stay open all year.
- Best time of year to visit: May to mid-July and mid-September to mid-October.
- Watch out for: fewer ferries. From November to March, boats to the Aeolian and Egadi islands drop to once or twice a day on the main routes.
11. Lisbon and the Algarve, Portugal
Lisbon is the mildest big-city break in Europe this month, and pairing it with a few days on the Algarve gets you a little more sun.
- November weather: Lisbon’s highs drop from about 20°C to 16°C (68°F to 61°F), with lows of 13°C to 10°C. It’s the city’s wettest month, at around 79 mm. Faro on the Algarve stays a bit warmer, at 21°C to 18°C, with fewer wet days.
- Daily budget: about $194 (€167) mid-range in Lisbon (updated August 2026), the priciest city on this list.
- Worth doing: St Martin’s Day on 11 November, when locals hold a magusto with roasted chestnuts and traditional drinks like água-pé and jeropiga. Portuguese folk wisdom even promises a short “St Martin’s Summer” of better weather around the date.
- Best time of year to visit: late May to late September.
- Watch out for: rain. Pack a proper jacket and plan a few indoor afternoons.
Affordable Places to Travel in November
“Cheap” depends on where you’re flying from, but some places make your money go much further once you land. Egypt (about $64 a day), India (about $40) and Morocco (about $88) from the list above already fit here. Two more deserve a spot.
Budget-Friendly Destinations for Your Next Holiday
12. Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh)

November is peak season in the north for good reason: dry, warm days and cool evenings. Weather Spark rates the last week of November as Hanoi’s best stretch of the whole year.
- November weather: Hanoi averages 26°C by day and 19°C at night (78°F / 66°F) with about 46 mm of rain. Ha Long Bay is around 25°C / 19°C. Up in Sapa, nights can get close to freezing.
- Daily budget: about $25 on a backpacker budget or $66 mid-range (updated August 2026).
- Worth doing: street food in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, a Ha Long Bay cruise (book four to eight weeks ahead in high season), boat trips through Ninh Binh’s karst scenery, and treks around Sapa.
- Best time of year to visit: late October to late December for the north.
- Watch out for: central Vietnam. November is the riskiest flood month in Hue, Hoi An and Da Nang. Floods there from 16 October to 6 December 2025 left at least 219 people dead or missing. Stay north this month, and remember that Ha Long Bay sailings can be cancelled by the port authority when weather turns.
13. Mexico City and Oaxaca

November opens with Day of the Dead, and the dry season has just begun. Few cities let you eat this well for this little, and you arrive just as the marigolds go up.
- November weather: Mexico City averages 22°C by day and 8°C at night (72°F / 47°F). Oaxaca is warmer at 26°C / 10°C (79°F / 51°F). Both see fewer than three rainy days.
- Daily budget: BudgetYourTrip puts a budget-style day in Mexico City at about $81 and a mid-range day at about $230 (updated August 2026). Your hotel choice makes most of that difference.
- Worth doing: the city’s big Day of the Dead parade (Saturday 31 October 2026 at 2pm), the giant altar in the Zócalo (29 October to 2 November), the candlelit night of 2 November in Mixquic, and Oaxaca’s street processions and cemetery vigils on 1–2 November. Fly in by 31 October to catch the parade.
- Best time of year to visit: late March to late May for the warmest dry weather, or 31 October to 2 November for Day of the Dead.
- Watch out for: the altitude. Mexico City sits at 2,240 m, so drink plenty of water and take it easy on day one.
Best November Destinations for Nature and Adventure
South of the equator, November is late spring. Trails open, wildflowers bloom and the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet.
Best Places for Wildlife, Mountains, and Scenic Landscapes
14. Patagonia (Torres del Paine and El Calafate)

November is when Patagonia properly opens for the season. Trails and lodges are running, the wildflowers are at their peak, and you’ll share the paths with far fewer hikers than in January.
- November weather: days of roughly 7–16°C (45–60°F) around Torres del Paine, with nights near freezing at campsites and gusts of 40–65 km/h (25–40 mph). El Calafate averages 13°C / 3°C (55°F / 37°F).
- Daily budget: about $116 mid-range for Chile (updated August 2026). Argentina’s figures aren’t reliable right now because of currency swings.
- Worth doing: the W Trek early in the season, Perito Moreno Glacier from El Calafate, and the Fitz Roy hikes from El Chaltén.
- Before you go: any overnight stay inside Torres del Paine needs an advance reservation, and the park entrance ticket (CLP 48,500 for foreign adults in 2026–27) is bought separately.
- Best time of year to visit: October to April.
- Watch out for: the wind. Pack layers for all four seasons in one day.
15. New Zealand
Long spring days and freshly opened hiking trails make November a sweet spot, a few weeks before the summer holiday crowds.
- November weather: Auckland’s highs reach 18–20°C (64–68°F). Queenstown averages 17°C by day and 6°C at night (63°F / 43°F) with nearly 15 hours of daylight, though cold snaps below 5°C still happen in the south.
- Daily budget: about $161 per person (BudgetYourTrip, undated estimate). Most visitors also pay the NZD 100 International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy on top of the NZeTA fee.
- Worth doing: the Great Walks, whose 2026–27 season runs from 27 October to 30 April (bookings required), including the Abel Tasman Coast Track and the Routeburn, plus Rotorua’s geothermal parks for a rainy day.
- Best time of year to visit: October to April for hiking.
- Watch out for: changeable spring weather. Book Great Walk huts early and carry a warm layer even on sunny days.
How to Choose the Best Destination for November
Fifteen options is a lot. Run through these five checks and the list gets short quickly.
Weather and Seasons
Start with the hemisphere. North of the equator, November is late autumn; south of it, it’s late spring (Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology defines spring as September to November). That’s why Patagonia and New Zealand are opening up just as Europe goes grey.
Then check the rain pattern for the exact region, not just the country. Thailand’s Andaman coast is drying out while the Gulf side is at its wettest. Northern Vietnam is in peak season while central Vietnam floods.
Heading to the Caribbean? The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from 1 June to 30 November. NOAA says 96% of major-hurricane days fall between August and October, so the risk is much lower by November. Lower isn’t zero, though, so get travel insurance.
Budget and When to Book
Outside the holidays, November is a good month for deals. Expedia’s 2026 report, based on US bookings, named 18 November as one of the least busy days to travel.
The exception is US Thanksgiving, on Thursday 26 November 2026. Expedia lists the day before as one of the busiest travel days, and Hopper data reported by The Points Party puts the average domestic Thanksgiving round trip at $402, up 31% on last year. If you’re flying from the US, travel the week before or right after.
From the UK, most schools in England and Wales take their October half-term from 26 to 30 October 2026, so once November starts, family demand drops.
Travel Time and Jet Lag
Only have a week? Pick something close. From Europe, the Canaries, Morocco, Sicily, Portugal, Egypt and Jordan are all short or medium-haul. From North America, Mexico and Aruba are the easy wins.
Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Patagonia and New Zealand reward longer trips of ten days or more.
One more thing: the UK’s clocks went back on 25 October and the US follows on 1 November 2026, so for all of November the usual five-hour gap between London and New York is back.
Crowds and Holidays
Most places on this list are quieter in November than in summer, but a few dates pull in crowds. Expect busy streets and higher prices around Day of the Dead in Mexico, Diwali in India, Loy Krathong in Thailand, Kyoto’s foliage peak and Thanksgiving week anywhere Americans like to go. If you’d rather avoid people, reach Kyoto’s famous temples at opening time, and plan Mexico City for after 4 November, once the Day of the Dead crowds have gone.
November 2026 Festivals and Events Worth Timing a Trip Around
- 31 October to 2 November: Day of the Dead in Mexico City and Oaxaca (parade on 31 October).
- 6 and 18 November: Green March anniversary and Independence Day in Morocco.
- 8 November: Diwali in India.

- 13 November: Christmas markets open in Vienna (Rathausplatz) and at Copenhagen’s Tivoli.
- 12–15 November: ITF beach tennis in Aruba.
- 14 November: Edinburgh’s Christmas begins.

- 26 November: US Thanksgiving and the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
- 27 November: Christmas markets open in Nuremberg and Strasbourg.
Frequently Asked Questions About Traveling in November
Where Is Hot in November?
For proper heat, head to Aruba (about 32°C), Phuket (about 31°C), Muscat (about 30°C) or Luxor and Aswan in Egypt (29–30°C). The Red Sea resorts stay at 26–28°C with water warm enough for snorkeling. If you’d rather have pleasant warmth than real heat, the Canary Islands sit at 21–24°C and are the closest option from Europe.
What Are the Cheapest Places to Travel in November?
Based on BudgetYourTrip’s daily estimates, northern Vietnam ($25 budget, $66 mid-range), India (about $40 mid-range), Egypt (about $64) and Morocco (about $88) are the best value on this list. Mexico City can also be cheap if you stick to street food and simple hotels. Wherever you go, avoid flying during US Thanksgiving week, when fares peak.
Is November a Good Month for International Travel?
Yes, for most travelers it’s one of the best. You get shoulder-season prices in much of the northern hemisphere, the start of the dry season across parts of Asia, spring in the southern hemisphere, and festivals like Diwali and Loy Krathong. The main things to plan around are Thanksgiving week if you’re flying from the US, regional rainy seasons, and shorter days in Europe.
Is November Still Hurricane Season in the Caribbean?
Technically yes. The Atlantic season ends on 30 November, but activity drops a lot after October. Islands in the far south, like Aruba, sit outside the main storm track. Travel insurance is still worth having in case a late storm forms.
Where Can I See Christmas Markets in November?
Several of Europe’s big markets open in mid-November in 2026: Vienna and Copenhagen’s Tivoli on 13 November, Edinburgh on 14 November, Cologne on 16 November and London’s Winter Wonderland on 19 November. Nuremberg and Strasbourg follow on 27 November. Go in the last week of the month and you can catch nearly all of them.
Final Thoughts on the Best Places to Travel in November
The best places to travel in November depend on what you want from the trip. Want winter sun without a long flight from Europe? Go to the Canaries or Morocco. Want guaranteed heat? Oman or Egypt. Want culture with cooler air? Kyoto’s maples, Rajasthan’s festivals or a quiet Sicily. On a tight budget, northern Vietnam and Egypt go furthest. And if you want to hike, the southern hemisphere spring in Patagonia and New Zealand is hard to beat.
Whatever you pick, book around the busy dates (Day of the Dead, Diwali, Loy Krathong and Thanksgiving week), check the rain pattern for the exact region you’re visiting, and pack one more layer than you think you’ll need. Desert nights and Patagonian wind both catch people out.
